"More Channels, More Service" Project

With the support of foundational grants and generous donors, Public Radio Capital completed a total of three rounds of the MCMS Project bringing the total number of participating public radio organizations to 32.

"The "More Channels, More Service" Project assisted stations in planning their service expansion through mergers or acquisition growth strategies. PRC selected no more than 12 participants for each round, allowing for personalized service throughout multiple months of comprehensive business planning.

The More Channels, More Service Project prepared public radio organizations to:

  • Provide dual channel service to increase public radio service and revenues.
  • Expand community broadcasting to a wider geographic audience.
  • Introduce diversified program service in an area with limited program choices.
  • Extend public radio service to an underserved geographic area.
  • Expand program services to include Spanish language programs.
  • Establish AAA formats in new markets for public radio.
  • Purchase channels from institutionally owned stations that are at risk of being sold outside the public radio system.

“More Channels, More Service” Conferences

Each round of MCMS culminated in a two-day conference, bringing together visionary leaders from across the nation to discuss the issues, trends, and opportunities facing public radio.

In a relaxed environment, public radio organizations exchanged ideas on expanding services in communities nationwide with leaders in public radio strategy, financing and organizational development.

This year’s keynote speaker was Orlando Bagwell, Deputy Director of Media, Arts and Culture from the Ford Foundation.
